Whoopi Goldberg Is Leaving 'The View', Creates Show About First Transgender Modeling Agency

Written by Mike Orie of TheConsciousTip.com

In a recent interview with Wendy Williams, Whoopi Goldberg discusses plans to leave 'The View' to direct movies among other things.

Whoopi Goldberg has signed onto one more year with 'The View', but after that she's gone. In an interview Friday on the Wendy Williams show, she explains why the move is a part of a plan to work on much bigger goals. "I have to do it. Because I have to go and grow. I've got stuff to do. I've got movies I need to direct, I've got books I need to finish."

Goldberg has been a moderator on 'The View' since 2007 but will likely not return after her contract. "They're in their 20th season. They did this without me. I've been here for half of it, but not all of it."

With a career spanning over 35 years, Whoopi Goldberg has played some of our generations most important roles, including Celie in The Color Purple, Sister Act, A Different World and others. She is also apart of the very few elite who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, known as 'EGOT.'

Her plans to leave the show after 10 years include working on a new project called "Strut." The project will tell the story about the first transgender modeling agency. The new show will air on Oxygen and will follow a group of models signed to Slay Model Management, an agency that focuses solely on transgender models."The conversations that we're having about people's gender, may not be the best questions to ask. And maybe if we realize that transgender people have mom's and dad's and boyfriends and girlfriends that we can be kinder when we're with them." Goldberg's show will be the first reality modeling show specifically on transgender models.

Goldberg is also expected to have a behind the scenes credit on an upcoming scripted film on Emmett Till. Watch the interview below with Wendy Williams.

What are your thoughts about Goldberg leaving and the development of this new show?
