Although still untitled, the film will be produced by Nina Yang Bongiovi, most notable for her work on "Dope" and "Fruitvale Station." Jeff Clanagan, CEO of Codeblack Enterprises along with Sidra Smith, a producer on the 2012 documentary "Free Angela and All Political Prisoners" are also expected to serve as producers on the upcoming biopic. Davis will serve as executive producer alongside her niece, Eisa Davis, who won a Pulitzer Prize in Drama for her play "Bulrusher."
Angela Davis, 72, is an activist, scholar and writer. A former professor at UCLA, Davis was fired unjustly by the school's administration because of her association with communism, according to Biography. For decades, Davis has become best known for her work as a radical African-American educator and activist for civil rights, among other social issues.
Codeblack Films, now a division of Lionsgate, was launched in 2012 with the goal "to serve the global black community through a diversified content portfolio targeted to the underserved African-American consumer."
