Several different media outlets including Sandra Rose and BET are reporting that Atlanta-based singer Usher Raymond does not have herpes and therefore could not have given said herpes to what’s her face or that other lady or that one dude. Seems that court documents outlined accusations which were never actually proven to be fact.

Still we all just knew Usher was guilty and therefore put him in the same league with R. Kelly, Bill Cosby, OJ Simpson and Bobby Valentino. The memes were glorious. For the past several weeks, I’ve marveled at the ongoing chatter. Snoop Dogg even chimed in. And social media has been particularly excited about the topic.
“Herpes is a horrible disease to spread. How dare he!”
“That’s just how dogs do!”
“Those women deserve millions for their pain and suffering.”
“Herpes can cause infertility!”
“I had a feeling Usher was on the down low.”
Usher’s melodrama even started a fascinating conversation on whether or not Usher would dare sleep with a plus-sized woman.
Most annoyingly—and despite all the chatter—very few articles and commenters actually made any effort to talk facts about herpes. I mean, if anything, surely this was a teachable moment about what genital herpes is, how it is spread, what can be expected when living with herpes and how the disease itself is pretty common (one out of every six people between 14 and 49 have genital herpes), right? Yet, no one went out of their way to dispel herpes myths or provide resources on how to treat herpes.
Whatever.
Usher does not have herpes. Any accusers suing him for millions won’t get it and will likely pony up whatever money they actually do have to counteract the legal tsunami Usher will undoubtedly unleash. I guess we can now look forward to a rash of new memes on this ridiculous story.
The singer has plans to launch a defamation case against the accusers and their legal representation.
