African Black Soap Shampoo
African black soap is a super moisturizing and gentle cleanser. It’s great on the scalp without adding irritation, as well as gentle on strands, to help keep your natural balance. Glycerin and honey are both humectants and natural moisturizers. Grapeseed oil is great for locking in moisture and acts as a sealant for your strands.Ingredients
- 4 tbsp. of crumbled African black soap
- 1 cup hot water
- 2 tsp. glycerin or pure honey as a substitute
- 3 tsp. grapeseed oil
To make this DIY shampoo, simply place the African black soap shavings into a bowl and cover with the hot water. This will help the soap mix more easily with the other ingredients. Make sure you shave the soap into thin pieces or small crumbles to help with the melting process. Combine the glycerin or honey, as well as the grapeseed oil, and stir until all elements are evenly combined. Transfer to a clean container and shake well. This mixture should last for a few weeks. If things start to settle, you can always reheat the mixture by placing the container in warm water.
Coconut Milk Shampoo
When looking for a quick recipe that is also nourishing, this one is a great fix. The castile soap will cleanse while the coconut milk is rich in moisturizing properties. Best of all, it only takes two ingredients to make it!
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons of liquid castile soap
- ½ a cup of coconut milk
Combine the two ingredients and stir until evenly blended. A great way to make this last is to make them into small pods using an ice cube tray or small muffin tray. Pour the liquid into the tray and freeze. When you need to wash your hair, simply pop one out of the tray! You can also store them in your bathroom once they are frozen, but make sure you keep them away from heat and moisture until you’re ready to use them.
