Barack and Michelle Obama Send-Off Malia To Harvard in An Emotional Goodbye

One of the most bittersweet moments of a parent’s life is likely sending off their offspring to college. Though it is a proud moment to see the child you’ve raised head on to pursue higher education, in many cases, they are also going off to live on their own on the school’s campus.

Probably one of the most famous incoming college freshman is Malia Obama, who will be beginning her fall semester at the esteemed Harvard. Much like any typical set of parents, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama helped Malia move into her dorm dwellings. The family was fresh off a vacation at Martha’s Vineyard.

Because of the Obama’s fame, of course this wasn’t your typical move-in. A nice crowd of people swarmed the area, taking pictures of the family as Malia embarked on a new journey in her life.

Along with several shots of Malia hanging out with her friends, a video was posted of Mr. & Mrs. Obama leaving the dormitory into their suburbans, with their faces covered with sunglasses.

We can safely assume that it was an emotional time! Especially in Mr. Obama’s case, as we received insight into his feelings during a 2015 Michigan speech where he claimed Malia told him on the first day of her senior year in high school, “Daddy, you know, you realize this is probably going to be the last time that you ever send me off for my first day of school,” to which the former president became choked up while recounting the story.

It hasn’t yet been confirmed whether or not Malia will be accompanied by Secret Service during her tenure at Harvard, but there are options available thanks to a 2013 law Obama signed during his term as President that secured lifetime Secret Service detail for the president and first lady. While it’s impossible to have an entirely “normal” college life given her name, Harvard is actually known for its campus (and students within it) not causing such a big scene when they have notable names attend their school, such as Natalie Portman. Yara Shahidi (Black-ish, Grown-ish) will also be joining the campus this fall.

Congrats to Malia Obama for her new educational adventure! We are sure she will do fantastic!
