Here in the US, elementary school kids often pay tribute to American history by dressing up in red, white, and blue garb and singing standards like “Yankee Doodle” and “The Star-Spangled Banner”. The children in Germany do things a tad bit different, however, as evidenced by the video below.
Instead of war heroes or presidents, a class at Lemmchen elementary school in Mainz (about 30 miles south of Frankfurt) honor their musical forefathers Kraftwerk. The youngins take on the electronic pioneers’ Man-Machine classic “The Robots (Die Roboter)” while outfitted in cardboard robot costumes. It’s pretty adorable, and, for fans of Kraftwerk, a pretty fun piece of homage.
