Tell It Tuesday: Jay, Bey & the POWER OF FORGIVENESS

Jay & Bey
By - Ta-ning Connai

Whenever your doubters have you down for the count, here’s a list of things to do to show them you're still on top…
1. Shut down the Louvre in Paris
2. Rattle out some lyrics hot enough to burn down the Amazon Rainforest
3. Make sure you get it all on film

Simple right? Well, Jay and Bey sure make it seem that way. The famed museum was the backdrop for The Carters’ video for Apesh*t, the first single from their sneak attack album called Everything Is Love (dropped June 16).

The dynamic duo was utterly relentless, unleashing one vicious clapback after the next; even had me wanting to slap myself for thinking they wouldn't last. But hey, don't blame me, blame Shawn; he's the one that brought scandal all up in the mix. He cheated on Blue Ivy’s sweet lil momma way more than just once, so I figured that the inevitable end must be just around the corner. But instead of letting the doorknob hit him where the dog shoulda bit him, Beyonce gave her husband forgiveness. Via Lemonade, she first had to set the whole record straight. Then through his heartcry album 4:44, Jay poetically tried to explain. He knew sorry wasn't big enough for the horrible things he'd done, but through an enormous effort to change for the better, look who's got the last word!

If Bey would've taken my merciless advice, both her and Sasha Fierce woulda ended up in an orange jumpsuit, shackled in chains, trying to claim they were insane because betrayal can really make its victims wanna do crazy things, but it's not an unforgivable sin. And when the guilty party at least feels bad about the harm that they caused, it can open up the doors to a better relationship in the end.

Jesus knows A LOT about betrayal and Judas wasn't the only one that did Him dirty. Peter was that disciple who was down for whatever, but when the going got tough, Peter got going (Matthew 26:69-75). When pressed about his relationship with Christ, he was like, “Whatchoo talkin’ ‘bout Willis?!” Not once...not twice...but THREE TIMES he denied his Boy! And when his frontin’ wasn't working, he decided to take it up a notch. “I told y’all I don't know this m@#&!*%$” (paraphrased version) Daaaang, Peter must've been mighty petrified to put the Lord on blast like that! And when all three chances to change his mind had finally run out, the rooster crowed and Peter sobbed, but it was a little too late for all that.

Just think about how bad Peter must’ve felt watching his Best Friend get crucified. The gut wrenching guilt caused him to walk away from a meaningful ministry only to return to his meaningless life of catching fish. But it was Jesus who pursued Peter (after His resurrection) to let him know he was loved, he was forgiven and he could finish where he left off (John 21:1-19). Peter then went on to be one of the greatest preachers ever known, with two books in the Bible with his name on it! There’s even a rumored tale that he’s the Head Bouncer at Heavens Gate! Now, that’s what I call forgiveness!

It’s easy to forgive the little things, but those unthinkable acts make it pretty tough. But know that Jesus died for both the “ooops” kinda sins and the “OH NO HE DIDN’T!” ones. So, let's use our forgiveness as a steady bridge to help our loved ones overcome. Betrayal sucks, but forgiveness rocks, so be sure to let love rule!
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. - Colossians 3:13
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. - Matthew 6:14-15
Do you make it a practice to forgive?
