African American broadcasting network Bounce TV is expanding its reach with new subscription video streaming service, Brown Sugar. Brown Sugar is being dubbed, the new Netflix but 'Blacker.' The subscription service is currently available on both Google Play and the iTunes store for only $3.99/month, however the new app allows for a free 30-day trial.

In its initial launch, Brown Sugar currently has 111 films available for streaming with several hundred additional titles expected to be added in the coming months ahead. A sample list of the current roster includes the following and more: Shaft, Foxy Brown, Hell Up in Harlem, Super Fly, Dolemite, Uptown Saturday Night, Cooley High, Three The Hard Way, Cleopatra Jones, Mandingo, Willie Dynamite, The Original Gangstas, Black Ceasar and Car Wash.

Brown Sugar has appointed Rick Ross, Pam Grier (Foxy Brown) and Fred "The Hammer" Williamson (Three The Hard Way/The Hammer/Black Ceasar) to serve as paid spokespersons to help promote the new streaming service.

“Brown Sugar is just like Netflix, only blacker,” said the Grier. “These movies are entertaining and fun, but they were also empowering to the black community as they depicted African Americans as strong leading characters and heroes for the first time.”

You can sign up for Brown Sugar here.

What are your thoughts on the new streaming service? Can it compete with Netflix and Hulu?
