by Mary Wolff

When it comes to caring for your curls, you may feel more comfortable creating your own products. Maybe you just don’t have the time to run to the store to pick up another bottle. Whatever the case, there are a ton of easy-to-make ideas for a DIY conditioner for curls. They use natural ingredients you probably already have on hand in your kitchen! Here are a few of my favorite recipes for a nourishing DIY conditioner for curls.

Olive Oil Conditioner
This one is simple in ingredients and super moisturizing. It uses only two ingredients and leaves hair nourished thanks to the healthy fats in olive oil. It is also great at combating frizz.

Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 4-8 drops of your favorite essential oil for fragrance
Simply mix the olive oil and essential oil together. Apply to wet hair or dry hair.  For even better results, you can warm it slightly in a microwave container, but make sure it is not hot, just warm. Rinse as usual.

Honey/Olive Oil Conditioner
Using olive oil and honey to create a sweet treat for your hair, this conditioner will leave hair soft and sleek. Honey is a natural emollient known to nourish strands.

Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
This recipe requires heat to get an evenly combined mixture. Combine the two ingredients in a pan to heat up on low heat to medium heat. You just need enough heat to combine the two without them separating. Once they are mixed evenly together, let it cool to a comfortable warmth to avoid burning yourself. Apply to hair. If you can let it soak in for thirty minutes, you get even more moisturizing from it than if you immediately rinse it out. Also, you will want to rinse it with warm water because the honey needs a little heat to fully get out of your hair. Finish with a cool rinse to beat the frizzies.

Coco-cado Conditioner
For a recipe using the best of avocado and coconut together, this recipe is a must-try. It is super nourishing thanks to the healthy fats found in avocado and the coconut, and it is a natural way to battle frizz. This is a great DIY conditioner for when hair is extra dry and frizzy.

Ingredients
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 cup coconut milk (whole fat preferably)
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

In a bowl, mash the inside pulp of a ripe avocado until worked into a paste. Add the milk and oil. Mix untilyou get an even, smooth consistency. Apply to hair and rinse as usual.

When you need a quick fix for your curls, these DIY recipes are easy and effective. Give your strands the moisture they deserve!
